CARIA is the name of the region in ancient times that covered most of today’s Aydın and Muğla provinces, along with the western tip of Denizli province. The Büyük Menderes (Maiandros) River marked its northern boundary, while the Dalaman (Indos) River formed the eastern border with its neighbor, Lycia. Its western and southern borders were the Aegean Sea. One of the natural environments where the stones used in this product are found is SALBAKOS, the ancient name for present-day Denizli-Babadağ. The art and sculpture center, the city of Aphrodisias, is located on the western slopes of Mount Salbakos.
