In ancient times, this region encompassed most of present-day Aydın and Muğla provinces, as well as the western edge of Denizli province. The northern boundary is defined by the Büyük Menderes (Maiandros) River, while the Indos River forms the border with Lycia to the east. The Aegean Sea borders the west and south.

CADMOS Mountain is located in the northern part of the ancient Caria region and is now an inactive volcanic mountain in Denizli province. The highest mountain in the Aegean region, Honaz Mountain, is situated to the west of Cadmos and is near the ancient city of Colossae on the Laodikya side.
